Teams assembled in the East London sporting ground from lunchtime, dressed to impress in their team gear and ready to go head-to-head against colleagues and peers. Defending champions Acquire were ready to take on BT, Sky, Intu, Topcashback, Smarter Click and the combined Awin and Student Beans team (the BeanWins) in a medley of sports and challenges that would test their athletic abilities.
As the sun shined, the teams kicked off the event with several School Sports Day games. Points were accumulated as the teams rotated between 11 old school challenges. Acquire maintained a firm grip on their on their title as the games began but Sky, The BeanWins and TopCashback quickly caught up. The defending champions had their title officially stripped when TopCashback (literally) pulled it out of their hands in a dramatic tug-of-war challenge.
After the School Sports Day round-robin, the teams’ put their strength and bravery to the test in a series of Dodgeball and Battlezone Archery matches. Contestants ducked and weaved their way around the Dodgeball court while the throwing talents of others came to the fore. Meanwhile in the archery court, players tapped into their inner Katniss Everdeen as they competed with sets of bows and arrows.
The afternoon saw some slight injuries and numerous thirsty players, so the teams enjoyed a BBQ and drinks before the final challenge of the day took place. The points from the first three activities were added up and the teams were given one last shot at winning the tournament. The decider round was a game of Xtreme Ballseye, a mix of darts and football that saw the teams kicking and throwing their way to victory.
With their eye on the prize, it was TopCashback who used their impeccable aim to become SuperGames 2018 Champions. Each member of the team received a medal as well as the coveted SuperGames trophy and two bottles of bubbly to take back to the office. Following the prize-giving, the air of rivalry had subsided, and everyone continued to enjoy a drink and mingle with one another as the weekend started set in.
